Ground Turkey Picadillo

Here with another Tasty Tuesday for ya! Ok so my love for tacos runs deep as I’m sure for most people. However sometimes I get bored and need to switch things up! In comes this amazing delicious picadillo. Now this is a Latin dish that has a million variations depending on what Latin country you get it from but here is my version. The reason I love this recipe is because it’s kid friendly, it’s meal prep friendly, it’s low carb friend and it’s easy! Ok let’s dive in!


1/2 large chopped onion

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 small tomato, chopped

1/2 green pepper, finely chopped

2 tbsp cilantro

1lb ground turkey

4 oz 1/2 can tomato sauce

salt and pepper

1 tsp ground cumin

1-2 bay leaf

1/2 cup Spanish olives

2 tsp of extra virgin olive oil

1 packet of Sazon ( you can find this is most Latin/Hispanic sections in the grocery store)


Brown meat on high heat in large sauté pan and season with salt and pepper.

Use a whisk to break the meat up into small pieces. When meat is no longer pink.

Meanwhile, while meat is cooking, chop onion, garlic(like to buy the minced garlic already chopped up), pepper, tomato and cilantro.

Add to the meat and continue cooking on a low flame. Add Spanish olives and about 2 tbsp of the brine (the juice from the olives, this adds great flavor) cumin, bay leaf, salt, pepper and sazon packet. Add tomato sauce and 1/4 cup of water and mix well. Reduce heat and simmer covered about 20 minutes.

Serve over rice or as nachos for the kiddos
