Ep 30: Mom's have mastered "I'm Fine!" and its not ok!
“I’m Fine!” No really “I’m fine” this was said 5 mins before you finished your second cry of the day.
Listen I think in some way shape or form we have all been there right? The question, “how are you?” is almost expected to end with "I’m good" or "I’m ok", or "I’m fine". We have been trained to expect that answer, therefore we have been trained to give that answer. And if there was any group of people that have been good at saying “I’m fine!” It's the moms.
I’ll be the first to say that I’m a huge culprit of saying, I’m fine when in fact I’m dying inside. Why? Well.. you know there is this whole “everyone else's needs come before my own” stigma that sometimes gets the best of me. It's this whole idea that I don’t have “time” to feel sad or upset, I have a child to take care of. I have a kid that needs me. I have a partner that needs my support.
So you take your just fine and suffer in silence. You handle the ups and downs of depression and anxiety alone. That's' no Ok!
I’m here to say this, it’s ok to not be fine! We don’t have to be ashamed to say I’m not ok. No one is going to think your a less adequate mom because you need help. You are not weak, helpless, or incapable. You are human!
In today’s episode, I share my struggles with dealing with depression and anxiety in motherhood.
