3 Easy Ways to Avoid Burnout as a Working Mom
Ok so we are now halfway through September and I don't know about you but I'm still trying to figure out where did the summer go? Like I know it happened but why so fast!
Anyways enough crying....here we are.
Zanella has started preschool, working is gearing up for the most busiest time of the year, Brandon started teaching, and Audree has become the true definition of a terrible two (she's not even two yet!)
What does that mean? More than ever my routines have to be on point. It is go time, it is hustle time, priorities have be right and I have to be laser focused. Otherwise all this whole operation comes tumbling down.
I wanted share with you 3 things I have done to help me avoid burnout, stay on routine and still make time for fun!
COMMUNICATION its the key to everything right? I can't tell you how many times over the last few weeks Brandon and I have gotten a date wrong, misinterpreted what the other said, or completely forgotten something. Until we both sat down for an hour with ALL the calendars (paper and digital) and figured out our schedule. That has been the biggest help in making sure we are on he same page everyday.
I give myself some GRACE. Here is the scoop I'm sharing with you some of the things I have done to help me during this busy time of year. However please believe that I fall short every single day. And if I didn't give myself grace I would hiding in a corner crying myself to sleep. It's not going to be the end of he world if I don't read my kids a bedtime story tonight, it's not going to be the end of the world if I leave the laundry unfolded for two weeks (well it might get close but you know) it's not going to be the end of the world if I pick up a pizza instead of making another Pinterest inspired recipe. The kids will still sleep fine, everyone will still have clean clothes to wear ( a little wrinkle but you know) and who has ever complained about pizza?
Give yourself some grace!!
I schedule time for fun. Note that I didn't say " make" time for fun. I said "schedule" time for fun. Here's the deal if I look my calendar and all I see is work, school, pick up, drop off, doctors appt, make dinner, do laundry, etc. every single day I would lose my mind!
So here's a cute little thing that I set up for Brandon and I. I put on our shared calendar in iCal a in house date night every Wednesday night at 8pm. It's a chance for us to connect, have a drink, watch a movie/show, or just simple unwind from our week. And I must say it's something that I look forwarded to every week. It's nice to look at my calendar and see buried under all the things i DON'T want to do and see something that WANT to do.
Some other things that I schedule that is super important to me is detox baths, quiet tea time, journaling and meditating. I would necessarily call them "fun" but they essential and vital to my overall self care. And without that this mama is completely out of whack!
Remember It's not always about scheduling the things you have to but scheduling the things you want to do.
